On Sunday, Afghan President Hamid Karzai offered to provide security for the Taliban's reclusive leader, Mullah Omar, if he agrees to enter peace talks, and suggested that if the U.S. and other Western nations disagreed they could leave the country or oust him.
"If I say I want protection for Mullah Omar, the international community has two choices, remove me or leave if they disagree," Karzai said.
Omar is a leader of the Afghan Taliban and headed the government toppled by the U.S.-led invasion in 2001. Since then, he has been in hiding but is believed to be running the insurgency.
Karzai has long supported drawing the Islamist militia into the political mainstream on the condition that they accept the country's constitution.

Actually I just read a RAND study report on "the end of terror groups" and learned that two things work. Killing them or they enter the polital mainstream. We know that killing them has not worked. Perhaps Karzai is interested in trying something different.
After all, William Ayers isn't bombing buildings anymore, is he?

So do we stop hunting down those who support and offer safe haven for Al Qaeda? Allow this extremist islamic group back a country that they imposed their harsh religious beliefs on the people of Afghanistan? Religions and war don't mix well at all. There is no way to win anything in Afghanistan. What a frigging mess that cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars. As a former bush jr. administration official at the Pentagon once stated we never defeated the Taliban in Afghanistan, we just pushed them aside for awhile at the same time creating a strong hold in Pakistan that slowly, tribal region by tribal region, realizing they could take over both countries. Scary considering the latter has nuclear weapons. What a mess.

b.b.Nope.
His superior puppet-mastering skills have landed his favorite puppet into the Whitey House. Now he has access to much bigger bombs and can focus on much more significant targets. ;)

Interesting to see Ayers finally talking about the matter... 'doesn't know Obama better than thousands of other Chicagoans' and was one of '20 houses Obama was in that day'.

Is this war on terror winding down? Is the U.S.A. and it's allies surrendering Afghanistan? We boondoggled Iraq and the original front was ignored to this current state. Are we about to add this war to the list of failed wars?

This kind of makes sense now. Hamid Karzai knew a new administration(Obama) and his own country would deal a blow to his corruption. No wonders he wanted Taliban back in the country, to cover his behind.
The ties to the puppet were cut and now it's damage control.
