View Full Version : Proposition #1

On the November ballot.

I'm sure everyone will get a slinger in their paperbox from the Boston Emergency Squad. Take a minute to read it.

In this day and age of higher taxes and fees the last thing we want is an added burden on our wallets.

But this is a different animal. For a few extra dollars a year, and I mean a few dollars, we will strengthen a volunteer organization that you or a family member may need 24/7.

I can't tell you how to vote, but this taxpayer will be voting yes for Proposition #1 on election day.

this taxpayer will be voting NO and I will tell you why.

Voluteers are Volunteers and want to be there, enticing them with tax money is not going to make a difference. Boston Emergency Squad members have lengthy training and not everyone can join. Applications have to be reviewed by Little Hilter and the Town Board Sheep before being approved. Increasing the amount given to each member with a lump sum amount when the member turns sixty is just another hand out by the Democrats to get votes.

VOTE NO...

Just to clarify one thing, this isn't a hand-out by the Democratic town board.
The citizens of the town will decide whether this will pass or not on Election Day. Just like they did when the awards program was first voted on by the taxpayers of the town of Boston.

My guess is the BES is having trouble recruiting individuals and/or is having trouble retaining individuals. This is why they are asking for this small increase in the awards program. One thing I do know about the BES, they are straight shooters, and would not ask for this unless it was absolutely necessary.

Worse case scenario: BES calls it quits.......the town contracts with Rural Metro.......my taxes go up.

I'm voting YES.

Are they ( Rural Metro ) not waiting to possibly go out on strike?

The Boston Emergency Squad, this year, has SAVED Boston taxpayers $188,750 by acquiring a needed replacement ambulance through a Dept. of Homeland Security grant. Last years grants SAVED Boston taxpayers $80,747.

My opinion is that at a total cost to the town of LESS than $8,000 yearly to help staff an Advanced Life Suport unit in your town, 24hrs a day, 365 days a year... is a small price to pay.

Good point.

All the more reason to vote YES.

After the presentation, Teamster representatives discussed the current situation at Rural/Metro with key members of the Attorney General’s staff, including the important issues of wage disparity and use of out-of-state replacement workers.

Yes they got the reciprocity. But the Teamsters also told us Metro will be back to the table in November and the discussions will continue. However we have put in a vote to strike, but as history goes (and it does repeat itself) Metro will crack at the 11th hour before the strike is carried out. And if there is a strike rumor has it enough employees will cross the line, I will not be one of them however. So there will be enough crews to man the ambulances. And out in Boston, depending on who shows up for the call they usually cancel Metro and transport themselves, so you dont need to get all worked up about Metro.

Explanation of Town of Boston Propostion 1
Town of Boston Proposition #1

Shall Resolution No. 12 of the Year 2008 requiring the Town Board of the Town of Boston to adopt an amendment to the previously adopted Service Award Program of the Volunteer Ambulance Workers serving in the Town of Boston Ambulance District with the estimated cost of $28,700.00 based upon the current roster of active Volunteer Ambulance Workers and where the estimated annual cost per covered participant will be $700.00, and where the estimated annual administration fee will be $40.00 per participant per year with an additional cost of $200.00 for miscellaneous charges be approved?

Current Situation:
The Boston Town Board contracts with the Boston Emergency Squad for Emergency Medical Services. The Boston voters in 1996 approved the establishment of a Defined Contribution Service Award Program to provide municipality funded benefits for volunteer ambulance workers based upon length of service.

Currently, the Town of Boston contributes $480 per qualifying year of service for each active member to the program. Upon vesting and attaining the age of 60 the members become eligible to receive a lump sum payment including principal and earned interest minus expenses.

Similar options are also being considered by other New York State Municipalities. The Boston Town Board has proposed to increase the annual contribution to $700 per qualifying year.

The recruitment and retention of Boston Emergency Squad Volunteers continues to be a challenge and this program improves this situation.

A YES VOTE Means:
This proposition should be approved and hopefully by increasing the contribution from $480 to $700 per qualifying year per member will continue to improve recruiting and retention to the Boston Emergency Squad, which provides Emergency Medical Services to the Town of Boston without paid members.

A NO VOTE Means:
You disagree with increasing the contribution from $480 to $700 per qualifying year per member.

Let's say your a retired fireman in Town Thank You for Serving and your getting the pension as little as it is, and you are also an EMT for the squad, and you retire do you also get a pension again Thank You from the squad or is this double dipping like most politicians do, Assemblyperson, Congresspersons, Supervisiors?
Just wondering
like being a supervisor in one town, Dept Head in another and advisor for a 3 town,

Maybe a simple update on the Tim Hortons would have been nice. Stop by and talk to the contractor and see how things are going. Just being a representative of the towns people. How hard can it be? She is the liaison, right?
