It comes as no surprise that the unions plan to mount legal challenges to the state control board. Nor am I surprised that Common Council members are concerned about the board's broad powers.
I am surprised, however, at the apparent failure to acknowledge responsibility for this situation. The very people who are complaining about the control board's powers are the same individuals who got us into this mess. After decades of mismanagement and pork barrel by career politicians and unions, we are in such dire financial straits that the adults have to step in and clean house.

It's about time our leaders put the city ahead of personal, union and back-pocket interests. Niagara Council Member Dominic Bonifacio Jr.'s suggestion that the control board "should give us all part-time jobs" is right on target. I don't expect the Council has the foresight to consider it seriously.

Therefore, I'm buying a house in Kenmore, where I will actually receive services for my tax dollars. Good luck to the rest of you.
