Given big government republicans in office at this time the answer is yes.
McCain is a Republican socialist.
In and of itself is oxymoronic

I don't agree that socialism is necessarily a cause of apathy.

I agree.
Empathy would be a more appropriate word for this use.

Another thing that's funny. . . Most of you still don't seem to have the slightest clue as to what socialism is. The bailout is not socialist. If it was, the government would see a benefit.

I already know what socialism means and why I would be happy to kill it.
So why dont you, Raoul Duke and Zanna, just go ahead and tell me what you think socialism is and why you defend it without giving any of us your usual shady bull crap. :)

Don't target me in the wrong circle.
Why do you think I'm here with capitalism? You know what happened to the USSR and why? Don't you?

Then you need to start making clear which side you are on when responding to a topic "before" you go on and on with answering questions with questions. You're not mothering children or selling a house here. :)

so·cial·ism (ssh-lzm) (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/socialism)
n.
1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
a free market would have allowed the corrupt organizations to fail, not force its citizens to bail them out.

I chose my side when I decided to stay here. It was not easy when we faced and were under deportation proceedures. But we stayed and this is my side. Some local people don't respect and appreciate what they've got here. They complain and whine, but are affraid to leave and try to live somewhere else. They are weak in spirit and have no hope.
There's always a way from no way. There's always a solution and breathtaking light at the end of any tunnel. This is my way, my view and my side. Is it clear to you now, Sylvan?

raoul duke who conditioned and instilled you with such blindness? I would like to know so those abusers and institutions can be bankrupted and demolished. The bailout, among true patriots, should be taken as a declaration of civil war.

If the Feds actually was Socialist, they would take over the banks, fire all the jerks and take their assets to cover for the losses, and then give them a job as a street cleaner for 10 years.

That is exactly what is being proposed now in the guise of a bailout.
The Fed "WE!" are tho ones who will hold the debt and impose regulation and control over leading. That is socialist no matter what you think or say.

Except, the SEC and the Fed has not limited exercise of options/selling of the stocks by the CEO's, and you know the selling has been going on this week and as we speak.
I really wish we can get Warren Buffet on our side for negotiations.
Is that too much to ask?

Not as of yet but I would bet they do in the long run.
"WE!" need to have transparent investigations of this debacle and heads have to roll From Congress right into Wall Street.
Now Wall Street will be the first to start chopping heads. Congress on the other hand is going to play politics and "WE!" need to be angry and loud in our commitment to not let them do just that.
The existing oversight failed. They must go. Not be rewarded for inaction.
It's funney how those in charge of watching out for this are the same ones calling for more oversight. Huh? They couldn't do the job with the tools they had and now they want more power over the markets. Hell No!

Here is another possible senario that I am troubled about:
What if those executives of the institutions with the bad paper leverages the risk against the government positions for possible additional "infusion" in the next 4 to 6 months?
Let me explain, today Bernanke said that the heads of these institutions might not "deal" with the Feds based on what is being purposed due to restrictions, reductions in wage for them, and also possible "little above fire sale price" negotiation of these papers.
Also, the posibility of foreign countries ending up owning our banks with more "favorable" deals than what the Fed offers?
Part of deal making is you can't show all your cards while dealing. The Fed has already shown all it's cards in my view and that allows the other party, whom ever it may be, to have an upper hand.
Very troubling in my view.
Something tells me this is not going to work out even if the Fed wants to do what they are insisting must be done by this weekend. Will the "ugly truth" be exposed in 3 months from now or maybe 6 months from now?
I just remember some of the hearings in the past years from the banking and financial committees where the problem has been addressed by several congressmen and women. I wish someone would get the old tapes of some of them and expose those who were insistant on de-regulation of the banking and insurance industry for the election in November since most of them will be going back home to run for re-election!

No. There is a poll question at the top of this thread that you can answer either yes or no to, that will help everyone understand which side you are on.
Telling us that you avoided deporation and your side is that you are happy to be here does not reveal anything except that you might not understand American founding principles compared to what America has become, and is, in the 21st century.
I could also tell by the article you sent me. Dont be offended. Your article is heart felt, but the paradigm falls short of knowing the actual truth and what is brewing covertly in the population to get the country back to what it was meant to be.

Zanna,
Please talk about what life was like under the socialists in Russia, and how NY and the US is similar or dissimilar, a compare and contrast if you will.
My opinion is that NY is socialist and the US is moving that way,
Sylvan this is for you... "socialism creates a 'victim' society"
My. o2 and looking forward to Zanna's .02

That the Commies are drunk on vodka and they give most of their income to the government with the hope of the remote possiblity they will be provided with a house with no heat, itchy moldy fabric to make their own clothes, and 1 government voucher for 1 loaf of government bread per month.

All talk and no action isn't a socialist's mindset, it's just how the United States has become. If this weren't true, we wouldn't have so many ineffective incumbents, most of whom are Democrats.

A nuclear power with porous security, less than strong economy and politics in flux is a scary thing..
That is my opinion of present day Russia.
Other than that Stalin was the biggest mass murderer that humanity has ever known.
And that I wish NY was not the NYUSSR.

When and where have I ever advocated and/or defended socialism? You have no clue what you're talking about. Really (and I've read the entire thread). Teh tubez are a marvelous place - books are even better - and if you look, you'll find lots of well sourced and intelligent information regarding socialism - even stuff I think you would ideologically agree with. You got the buzzwords down pat, however. Good job. Now go inform yourself.

Another dodge, just like a true socialist. Why cant you just answer the question? What is socialism to you, and why do you defend it?
