For the last year I have people pestering me for help on the political scene. People for the most part seem to be bottom feeders... some seem caring about their community but in the long run their true nature comes out.

The ones who care for their community and show it are volunteers actually making a difference. Most are not elected officials. Most elected officials just want to climb the ladder to a higher office.

There seems to be an endless supply of people who are only in it for themselves in government without regards to the people who pay for all this spending. I'm all for everyone paid something fair but it's far past that. Especially when families and friends are broken apart because they move out of state due to the cost of property/school/business taxes in NYS.

Everyone has an excuse it's not their budget, salary or benefit. It's like each drop of water doesn't want to blame itself for the flood it causing. Dtwarren had that as his signature.

I have people from the Cheektowaga Democratic Party asking for help yet they defend their obscene overtime and salaries with "well we negotiated it" and that's just how it is. You don’t know how hard we work. They don’t even realize they are a part of the problem everyone faces in Erie County. This same scenario plays out in Amherst, West Seneca, Lancaster and Buffalo.

Well what they seem to miss are the people who are in their late 60's/young families who can't make ends meet. They worked their asses off all their lives and now are being hit with what I would consider unreal property/school/business taxes. Worse is the loss of companies because they can't compete against other companies nationally.

They get whammed with constant tax increases and re-assessments. Some of these people I know have been in our community all their lives. My assessment alone went up like $60,000 the third or fourth year I was in my home. I didn't even do anything to my house at that time. We argued and had it lowered. Most elderly don’t argue and decide what to do without to cover their increases.

So either everyone has to really work together as a community to change things or we all bail from Speakup.

One of my favorite quotes:

Maximus (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000128/): You can help me. Whatever comes out of these gates, we've got a better chance of survival if we work together. Do you understand? If we stay together we survive.

One of my best friends and I have watched that movie dozens of times. She won’t let me put in the DVD player anymore.

Seeing this is my 25000th post.

Thank you to Lee, Gary, Cindy, Jim T, Yokes, Buffy, the mods and anyone else who has helped along the way.

25000 post at 3 minutes a post = 75,000 minutes.

75,000 / 60 minutes = 1,250 hours. I hope I invested my time wisely.

Congrats Res. :)

Although we all aren't movers and shakers, thank you for giving us the opportunity, and a place, to learn more about our federal, state, county, city, town, and village governments. We have all learned more than we ever imagined about our government representatives, and armed with this knowledge we've become more informed voters.

Your dedication to making Buffalo a better place to live and work is much appreciated by all of us. Although the process is slow, one day your goal will be achieved.
