You mean he won't tell you what is the matter with your dog?

yeah...but he'd really have to tell the others...it could be this...or that...but stuff that i'd be wrong in stating.....vertigo and infection are only two possible issues...

What were molson's symptoms? It will be informative to know the symptoms and what the possible diagnosis is.

Was his head tilted to one side? Did Dr. Jim mention vestibular? I hope he gets well soon. That must have been scary seeing your molson go through that.

Our rescue organization has had a few of our foster dogs go through this. Everyone reported that is was scary as hell. But the good news was that all of the dogs recovered within a few weeks. I don't remember if there was any medication the dogs were given to relieve the symptoms. I hope molson comes home soon.

after five years of being kicked and beaten....when i first got him...if you tried to roll him over to give him "tummy rubs"....he'd pee all over (not so much with me...but with my son's)...now if you say "tummy rub"....he rolls over...

Puff,
I hope it is ok, if I talk about some of the details about Molson,, really I should have your permission, but it seems like there are a lot of people pulling for him and are curious about this condition.
Molson presented to me with nystagmus,,(his eyes darting back and forth rapidly) and a history of difficulty walking and vomiting,
The old saying in medicine is that if you hear hoof beats look for horses and not zebra's,,
The most likely cause of Molson's condition is Ideopathic geriatric vestibular syndrome,, this is almost always self limiting and goes away after a few weeks. Ideopathic means that we do not know what causes it. It is believed to be stimulation/inflammation of one of the cranial nerves in the brain stem. Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better, but most resolve.
Other possiblities inner ear infection, trauma, and of course the dreaded C word that I am fairly certain he does not have. In certain cases MRI or CT are indicated if routine bloodwork and skull xrays do not contribute to a a diagnosis.
I hope this was ok to do Puff, it's wonderful you and Molson have so much support, You are a great pet guardian, and Molson appreciates it.
P.s. you have my cell phone number anytime you need it.
Dr. Jim. :) Hang in there Puff I think he will be just fine.

bbp, I was just wondering how is Molson doing and how long it was before Molson got back to normal? I am going through the same thing with my senior foster this morning. His head was tilted and he could barely walk. Kind of look liked he had 1 beer too many. There was no vomiting and I didnt notice anything with his eyes. I was so worried! I was thinking stroke.
I got him to my vet right away. He diagnosed vestibular with a minor concern of brain cancer. When he shined the light on his eyes I could see the eye movement. He also has a minor ear infection.
It is so sad to see him stumbling around and falling. So, How long did you go through this with Molson?

within the two weeks that dr jim suggested...he will stumble every now and then, but for the most part he's much better...now his problem is growths on his body which he scratches til they bleed...and surgery probably isn't an option due to his age (16)...just trying to keep him as long as possible...he and ziggy (my min schnauzer) are my pals...
i gave molson the drugs (three different meds) and he seemed to get better...hope yours does as well...
