I have to ask: What is the status of the Elementary schools in the city? Are there some that are flourishing or are they all in trouble? Are Magnet schools ahead of the game in any way? I've heard positive things about, for example, Olmsted School (on Lincoln Pkwy), and Montessori (Clinton Street). I am just doing my research and would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Here are two places to start if you're looking at academics.

Low percentages of students meeting the standards in Buffalo Schools (http://www.speakupwny.com/article_1384.shtml)

How well do you know your child's Buffalo public school? (http://www.speakupwny.com/article_1385.shtml)

No problemo...

If you notice wheresthesun, there are signifigant differences in the percentages of 4th grade students to the 8th grade students. The biggest struggle is English Language Arts.

For example:

School 63 has 46 core classes, 542 students enrolled, and 85% of its 31 teachers are highly qualified.

4th Grade Mathematics ……………………………… 53%
4th grade English Language Arts.……………… 34%
8th Grade Mathematics is…………………………… 13%
8th Grade English Language Arts.…………………6%
Middle-level Science and Regents Science performance………… 33%

You wonder how a school with 85% of its teachers are considered highly but have just 6% of the 8th grade class meeting the standards. And these are the class of kids who should move on to highschool?
