We talk about Buffalo and the County, but what about the pinheads in albany?
Anyone have an idea what type of salaries/bene's "state" people have given themselves?

This morning I saw an add campaign to kill the reform of medicaid.
Sponsered by the unions no less. Telling how Pataki is going to abandon the elderly and poor. Just another attempt to make certain status quo is alive and well in the state of New Taxes.
Can and will this nonsense ever end?

The unions have long ago outlived their own principles--they were a godsend to many at one time but don't know when to cool it. Unions are now counterproductive to their members and the nation in general. Look at the steel industry--a mainstay for employment in Buffalo.

I met a journalist from Albany last week.
Apparently, the feeling in the Capitol is that Pataki may not finish out his term. He seems to have taken a disinterest in the job.
Spitzer is looked at as the hands-down favorite.

Ortiz Hails New Childhood Obesity Funding
Proposed budget includes $1.5 million for new program
Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, (Brooklyn), Chair of the Task Force on Food, Farm and Nutrition Policy was pleased that the Governor included $1.5 million in new funding in his proposed budget for the Childhood Obesity Prevention Program.
"This may be the most important public health program of the 21st Century because we are facing a growing epidemic which not only kills people today but may overwhelm our State's health and financial resources in the coming years," said Ortiz. "I am pleased the Governor has recognized the need for action. This is good news for our State and especially our children."
The Program, sponsored by Assemblyman Ortiz, was signed into law late in 2003 but no specific appropriation was included in the 2004-05 budget. The Obesity Prevention Program would: develop media nutrition and physical activity promotion campaigns; implement school and community-based programs to improve nutrition and increase physical activity; coordinate obesity prevention strategies in government nutrition and recreation programs; sponsor conferences on solutions to childhood obesity; provide training to medical professionals; and, track the prevalence of the problem in the State.

I know if my child is fat or not and don't need you to spend 1.5 million to tell me!

You're not alone. This is what baffles my mind. When I first moved back to NY, I registered to vote. Since there was an election coming up I anxious awaited for my "voter's election guide" book to arrive in the mail. ( Like it did when I lived in California -- in 4 languages) When it did arrive, I foolishly contacted the "board of voters" to inquire. They laughed at me and asked me what I talking about. I responded -- the booklets that come that detail all the candidates - their resumes - voting records, etc. It lists all the propositions, bills, laws that we are voting on and gives the impacts it will have IF it does/does not pass. You know, so I can cast an informed, educated vote" After 20 seconds of dead silence, I was informed that NYS
(the land of taxes) does not have FUNDS to educate it's voters.
Oh, I get it ... this is the mushroom theory of goverment......
keeps us in the dark and s......t on us. Thank you for your time.

The latest payroll records from the comptroller's office indicate the state government's estimated total headcount of more than 234,000 employees remains larger than it was in the fall of 2000. This, despite the early-retirement buyouts offered to thousands of state workers last summer. (From Cato)

SUNY budgets are enormously bloated...the waste is enormous.
Salaries of 100,000 plus are common for teaching one couse per semester.
Will anyone dare to storm the walls of academia?

We have successfully foiled a tax increase in Erie County. Now we have to figure out how to go after the real problem, NY State. How do we get them to start cutting? Any ideas, anyone?

Watch Albany closely! They are trying to pass a 2.5 cent sales new york state sales tax increase to cover NYC schools. Hillary wants Presidential office and needs NY schools to prove her caring for the children. Remember "It takes a village" is her motto!
They will also try to increase state income tax to provide for the same thing.
Lets' not forget the beutiful new Manhatten stadium that will be bonded.
So no matter what we do here the down state people will take away of what ever we gain. Do not be suprised that in three months they get the 1 penny tax in Erie county. Forced politically by Albany!
Albany always gets what it wants!

All I know is when you make it to the State Senate, you don't step backwards to run for Mayor. One tends to gaze their eyes on the next step for Governor or Washington DC and Congress.
Why would any Senator step backwards instead of moving forwards. I'll tell you because he sees easy pickings...WATCH OUT OF THE BROWN. He's no good.

Sunday Buffalo News 2-20-05:
The service employees union is prepared to stike at the end of their existing contract. The date is sometime in April 2005 and if they do not get all their demands they will strike. This will effect the health industry like Womens and Childrens hospital and Kalieda health. They will insist on a tax increase to pay for their demands. Be prepaired!
10.75 sales tax is not far away!

Let's hope that Kaleida doesn't cave into the union goons...and fires the lot. Or better yet, let's hope the membership decides to cross the picket lines.
There are plenty of people ready willing and able to work their jobs.
