Buffy, my foster dog, came to me in October, 2006. She was 14 years old. She was such a cutie! She followed my other foster, Sloan all around the house and yard. I think she had a crush on him! She was an inside girl, just spending enough time outside to do her business.

Buffy had a serious unrinary tract infection and it was discovered she had a tumor on her bladder and severe arthritis in her back. Treatment seemed to be going well until about 3 weeks ago. She ate very little then finally stopped eating all together. She couldn't walk well and would stumble around the house. When she absolutely refused to take the chicken I made for her, I knew it was her way of telling me that she was ready to go.

I left work early and came home to find her laying and unable to get up. I carried her outside and she went potty, then I carried her to the car and went to see the doctor. Doctor Christy thought she was in kidney failure and agreed with me that Buffy was ready to leave our world. I held her head while she went peacefully to sleep.

God Speed my Buffy girl. May you run pain free with all your doggy friends.

I'm truly sorry for your loss, Em.

Even if Buffy was a "only" a foster dog, she was in your heart -- they all find their way there almost immediately! You did your best to make her last days good, and certainly better than if she had been in a shelter. God bless you for your kindness.

One Emerald,

You have my most sincere and heartfelt symphathies and condolances. Please take solace that decision was one of altruism in that you let her go.

I personally believe that you will see her again, as I hope to see my best friend again. I hope that reunion happens a long time from now.

Peace to you.

Dr. Jim

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. My heart aches for you and I understand your pain. That is truly one of the hardest, yet most selfless acts, a person can suffer through.

How lucky you & Buffy were to have shared in each other's lives, even if it was for a short time.

My deepest sympathy to you in your loss.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.

Buffy made the decision for me, I just abided to her wishes.

I truely believe that when the time comes, you should be with your pet while they go to the rainbow bridge. I was sobbing as I held her head and said my final goodbye. I could never have left her to die with strangers. It's amazing how peaceful it is.

Again, thank you, my friends.

:( I'm so sorry Emerald. The tears flow and my heart just aches for you. :(

Bless you for having made her last months of life happy and full of love. You did right by her, from the day she trotted into your heart, to the day she journeyed to the bridge.

OneEm I can feel your pain and there's none like it. I've had two cats start their journey to Rainbow Bridge while in my arms and wouldn't have it any other way. They give us so much pleasure, it wouldn't seem fair for them to pass alone.
My deepest condolences! :-(

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.Your little pup doesent want you to be sad becuase you gave her such a good life. If she could talk to you from heaven she would say "Momma grieve for a while then give another dog the joy and love you gave me. They always say when you own a pet you set your self up for a heart brake.Well mine has been broken a few times and you know what I would do it all over again.

Cgood, you sure are like a different person when you're talking about animals. I'm sure you're aware of that though...I guess they bring out the best in (many) people.

Cgood: Thats perhaps the only thing we will ever agree on..
Doing the work I do I have found animals in abandoned houses, tied up in yards etc..I usually end up taking them home with me and finding them a home.2 years ago a pregnant pit bull mix was left for dead in a house for perhaps a week or so near Bailey & William. She was all bones except her protuding stomach. What a sweet girl she was and I found her a great home that not only ended up keeping her but 2 out of her 5 pups!
Another time I found a chihuahua abandoned..he was shaking, cold and scared. I bent down to pick him up and he bit the hell outta me! I called the pound and he ended up getting adopted by an older man. If I could I would have several dogs but my hubby isnt the animal lover I am..He tolerates them for me.

When it comes to Animals,we are both on the same side of the street.I have one adopted cat that shares my home and my Garage door is always open if a stray needs a meal. Living in the country I see lots of cats that were taken for a ride and dropped off.I am thankfull I live near a huge dairy farm and the people that own it welcome them to the barns,no mice in there. I call em like I see em,thank you for watching out for our four legged friends!:)
