This guy has done everything in his power to undermine the City of Buffalo. He has been lobbying to stop any cash flow into the city. He was recently the comptroller. He created the mess. It is so obvious. Now he will sit on a Board that is suppossed to help the city stabilize its financial budget ? Talk about the fox guarding the hen house. How can a city have a racist, backstabbing, devisive individual, on its board. As a city resident, it makes no sense to me.

So acutally what experience does giambra or the Mayor have in running anything?

I would like to know.

Is there a list of what a mayors or county exec's are supposed to do on the job. You know we pay these people a pretty good penny and we are not getting the results we are paying for.

Good example, the superintendant of buffalo schools. Why on earth are we paying her 155,000 now and $30,000 more? Which stupid person brought that to the table? Rememeber when she retires we are saddled with that retirement. It's based on her yearly salary the highest years..I say SCREW it... no more.

Now can't the Mayor stick up for buffalo and tell the school board that is wrong you can't do it? I mean he's the Mayor isn't he?

I don't like the superintendent getting $185,000 a year either but if you look at other cities they also pay a lot for this position. It seems that this is the market value for this type of job. That sucks but apparently thats the way it is.
As for Giambra, He's doing everything he can to Break The Cycle of Keeping The Status Quo. I think his plan is to finally stop throwing good money after bad and allow the inevitiable to happen sooner rather than prolong the agony. The city has to be restructured and that means a lot of stakeholders in the old regime are going to lose their position at the trough. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the author of this discussion thread works for the city or is a recipient of some program tied to the city.
You don't see any small business onners or private sector employees screaming "save our bloated, corrupt, protectionist city government beaucracy!!", do you? Also, nice work on playing the race card. We'll all see a lot of that in the near future. It's a shame because no group has suffered more economically than Buffalo's black community. When a region has very low unemployment (NOT Buffalo..), EVERYONE gets a job - even the historically disenfranchised.
If it wasn't Giambra, it just would have been someone else. He's not the problem. It's the conditions that require the actions that he's undertaking. It's king of like blaming the firemen who arrive at the scene of a fire for the cause of the fire itself.

FYI - Giambra was never the Comptroller of the city of Buffalo. That's Obvious.
He did not create this mess. Unchecked power of special interest groups like municipal unions did.

A better command of the basic facts will help you better understand why this is happening and how it can be fixed.

But he has issues too in his group. Patronage jobs and such.

so what is the joke about the erie county water authority and Patronage? And who's idea was it to spend our money on radio ads about water verus bottled? That one person should be fired now. THat was a complete waste of my money.

OK so he my have a patronage history as well but the way the system is now - no aspiring polititian can get elected into any office without joining the system! He had to participate in the collective corruption just to get into the system at all.
Now that he's in office, he's got the ability to change the game. At least he's the only one actually saying what needs to be said. I'm sure the people who let him in think they have created a monster.

SO how many of his buddies that are patronage got laid off?

I'm still wondering how lame can we all be that we allowed this to get so out of hand.

Do you know how awesome NYS could be with cheap electric, good labor force if it wasn't for the state/local goverments.

WHen did NYS become "We are the world" for all the losers on our dime?

I don't think Giambra belongs on the control board. Dosen't he have a county to run. Why hasen't anyone asked why he is paying so much attention to drowning buffalo. So sooner or later he can do the same to Lackawanna,Cheektowaga, ans maybe even West Seneca. I sure he has his dominos stacked and buffalo is just the first to get hit by the ball.

I going to assume that you don't really believe that Giambra is out to destroy Erie County. I'm also going to assume that you are a civil service employee, union member, or have some other interest in "keeping things the way they are now". You probably are one of the people who will be cut off if things change.

I pay about $4000 a year in Cheektowaga in property taxes not counting, sales tax, income tax, tax on gasoline, tax on my phone bill, tax on my electric bill, tax on my comunication bill for my company, a tax on just about everything.

This has gotten completely out of hand.

I dont know about a republic of buffalo but it's time to put everything on the table and it's burn down the town halls or shape up :)
