what is it that gets you out of the house on a friday or saturday, or even weeknight, to go for live music?

a friend's band?
a cover band playing songs you know?
an original band playing in styles you like?
a specialty band (like jazz standards, or like Armcannon who plays all video game music)?
a tribute night?
your favorite venue no matter what type of music is playing?
a benefit?

signed,
curious.

Music you can acutally hear without going deaf. I remember going to a few live bands (not concerts) and couldn't believe how loud they were. It was pointless. Louder doesn't mean you sound better or play better. It just means it's loud.

yep, this is a maddening issue. even when the music and players are incredible, if it's too loud, it's unenjoyable. it's got to be at a level to suit the room. most venues around here that have in-house sound engineers do a good job of curbing this.

signed,
curious. A band like Crash Cadillac , plays all sorts of music , from old time rock & roll , to country western , dance music (for the wife  ) , etc. Don't care for the Elvis guy , forget his name , that's how important he is , I like the "Boys of Summer" , went to see & hear "KC & The Sunshine Band" last year at the casino , was surprisingly good even though he's VERY large right now , seen Peter Noone , was VERY funny plus played his great hits from the Herman's Hermits days..........Seemed very down to Earth .

As far as local bands, I always made a point iot hit as many shows as I could, which meant 5 - 7 venues a night on the weekends, a few durinbg the week.
Of course, I was booking alot of those shows, too.

And then I always hit my normal hangouts, and ended up at the local bar for one last drink.

GOD I miss that time.

All of the above.

And add to that, the ability to spend time with friends or family.

...Oh, and not to forget, an available babysitter.

one of the coolest things of my college days was that i worked in the "ensemble department" - it was my job to photocopy the ORIGINAL charts of Buddy Rich, Count Basie, and all kinds of now-famous jazz musicians, for the students to take to class. i had no idea what a big deal that was at the time.
