Just a simple question of "Should Prostitution be legal in NY?"

Absolutely.
I've never paid for sex, but it's plain to see that our Canadian counterparts are doing a much better "job".
Compare the quality offered on the Canadian side of the ditch against the crack-whore offerings on this side:
Canada: ********************
Buffalo: ********************
Guys get robbed or arrested every day in an attempt to satisfy their desires. I have no interest in paying my taxpayer dollars to incarcerate some dude willing to pay for a BJ, half and half, or greek. The war on prostitution is no different than the war on drugs. Both are failed policies. We can discuss the social consequences until the whores come home, but there is no way in hell that taxpayers should be forced to pay for prosecution.

Wow! And in the "progressive" hypocritical puritanical U.S.A. prostitution is treated as a crime?
When I was in Barcelona, Spain, "houses of ill-repute"
were not considered a "big deal."
Just like going to McDonald's. (NO! I wasn't a damned customer!!!)
From what I've read, ALL nations that have legalized prostitution have much lower rates of sex crimes than the U.S. and yes, most call girls in the U.S. (especially Buffalo)
look like monsters!!!
So ludicrous that the names of "johns" are published in most newspapers.
Another example of sex being "shameful"
Agree that taxpayer dollars should NOT go towards prosecution of johns or hookers
Didn't mean to sound like a "male pig" but I'm so sick and tired of our society's psuedo-repressive hypocrisy towards sex, as if its evil.

I had this conversation with an old girlfriend a couple of weeks ago. She's all for it...feminista that she is.
I had to agree with her philosophically...but just something didn't sit too well with me deep down. Concerns about forced prostitution, etc. I'm still not sure if it's a real objection or just something that society has bored into me for 30some years now.
But I would agree that it would be a lot safer in many different ways (criminal as well as health) were it to be legal (and, of course, taxable).

I've never paid for sex, but .
Sure ya have.
I am opposed to it, but I don't think it's a state, county or federal matter.
There was a law written against it along time ago.

There's no doubt it should be legal. If I want to sell my body, why should the government stop me?

Was that you on North St a few years back? I didn't realize you posted here. Plus, does it really count if you only charged $5?

Prostitution's already legal in this country, it's called dating. It's more barter system based then currency, "You buy me a hot dog and I'll let you slip me the hot dog".
The more you give the longer you get.

He's right. You have to pay for it one way or another.
Like you have to get a job to have a nice girl friend because typically
they're unattracted to the poor.
Of course the male usually pays for everything. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
..and finally, if she's out of her tree, your really pay for it.

A better question is.
Would legal prostitution end sexual slavery or make it worse.

I make no apologies, I'm not on the legal prostitution band wagon yet.
The only pro argument I see is; keeping it illegal hasn't stopped it.

It can't be stopped.
Why try?
Especially when judges, policemen, and congressmen
do it.
If marital sex (the righteous kind) was the only kind of sex,
humanity would be extinct.

If you read the stories, you will learn that most of the women are sent to brothels where they work as prostitutes.
Prostitution isn't the glamour industry it's painted up to be.

I just got a negative rep that said this:
common sense should prevail
Now I don't care about the neg rep, and I don't even care that it was unsigned.
But, making the comment in the rep, instead of publicly, it takes away the opportunity to debate it.

Never head that take on dating before!
So gun ownership has/is mandatory in some parts of the U.S.,
but sex for money is the work of the devil?

Officer allegedly forced girl, 13, to be prostitute
By Marcus Franklin - ASSOCIATED PRESS
Updated: 02/01/08 6:36 AM
http://www.buffalonews.com/nationalworld/state/story/265550.html#
NEW YORK — A police detective and a woman forced a 13-year-old runaway to work as a prostitute at parties across the city, telling her that if she tried to escape, the officer would make her sell herself on the streets, prosecutors said.
Wayne Taylor, 35, and Zelika Brown, 29, were arrested Wednesday on charges of kidnapping, promoting prostitution, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, the Queens district attorney’s office said.
Taylor, a 14-year member of the New York Police Department assigned to the Housing Bureau, was suspended without pay, the department said. Both he and Brown pleaded not guilty.
Taylor and Brown each face up to 25 years in prison if convicted. They were each being held after not posting $250,000 bail, prosecutors said.
The teenage girl ran away from her Brooklyn home Jan. 10 and met someone who offered to get her a job dancing for money at parties, according to prosecutors.
That person introduced her to Brown, who told the girl that she had bought her for $500 and that she had to work off the debt, prosecutors said.
Taylor instructed the girl to tell people that she was 19 years old and that she charged $40 to $80 for sexual acts, prosecutors said.
Taylor and Brown took the girl to parties throughout the city, where she was told to have sex with about 20 men in exchange for money given to the pair, prosecutors said.
While holding the girl against her will, Brown chided her for not earning enough money and slammed her head against the floor, prosecutors said.
Taylor told the victim that if she failed to earn more money or tried to leave, he would force her to work as a prostitute on the streets, prosecutors said. He told the girl that a house alarm would alert him if she tried to leave, they said.
A 17-year-old girl was also being held on charges of promoting prostitution, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors said.
The 17-year-old was told to oversee the 13-year-old at parties, prosecutors said. She is accused of slapping the girl at Brown’s behest for being too talkative with customers and of punching the girl.
The 13-year-old escaped to her family, who took her to a police precinct, police said.
“This case is every parent and every child’s worst nightmare, made even more frightening by the fact that one of the defendants is a police officer who swore to uphold the law and the community he serves,” District Attorney Richard A. Brown said.

True. That's why it should be legal. You always pay for it.

Yes, she did read it, and no she didn't get the joke behind it, so yes, she's upset about it, so I wanted to make sure that no one actually thinks I feel that way about her.
And before anyone accuses me of covering my ying, I'm just showing some respect to my GF here, by clearing up any misconceptions.

I think it should. It would be a great tax base plus the girls will all be healthy. I see nothing wrong in allowing women to make good money the old fashion way, and pay taxes for doing so. lol I would never use one but I know other men do.

An Irish daughter had not been home for over 5 years. Upon her return, her Father cussed her.
"Where have ye been all this time? Why did ye not write to us, not even a line? Why didn't ye call? Can ye not understand what ye put yer old Mother thru?"
The girl, crying, replied, "Sniff, sniff...Dad...I became a prostitute..."
"Ye what!!? Out of here, ye shameless harlot! Sinner! You're a disgrace to this Catholic family."
"OK, Dad-- as ye wish. I just came back to give mum this luxurious fur coat, title deed to a ten bedroo m mansion plus a $5 million savings certificate. For me little brother, this gold Rolex. And for ye Daddy, the sparkling new Mercedes limited edition convertible that's parked outside plus a membership to the country club...(takes a breath)... and an invitation for ye all to spend New Years Eve on board my new yacht in the Riviera and..."
"Now what was it ye said ye had become?" says Dad.
Girl, crying again, "Sniff, sniff....a prostitute Daddy! Sniff, sniff."
"Oh! Be Jesus! Ye scared me half to death, girl! I thought ye said a Protestant. Come here and give yer old Dad a hug."
