Why don't they just take a paycut and cut the BS. I thought the tax payer was in control in the united States.

Start at the top of the county salaries with a 30% cut and slide the scale down to the employeees making $20,000.

This would help to pull thier salaries in line with what people make in the private sector now a days. But tnhe cut has to include pension contributions too. We let them save for thier own retirement like most do in private sectors jobs.

Oh we'll make this "Temporary" just like the did when they lied and said the first sales tax increase was temporary.

Could you live in Erie county with $91,000 a year?

130,000 30.00% $91,000.00
120000 27.50% $87,000.00
110000 25.00% $82,500.00
100000 22.50% $77,500.00
90000 20.00% $72,000.00
80000 17.50% $66,000.00
70000 15.00% $59,500.00
60000 12.50% $52,500.00
50000 10.00% $45,000.00
40000 7.50% $37,000.00
30000 5.00% $28,500.00
20000 2.50% $19,500.00

Does anyone have the figure of the average County employee salary?

Lets say each employee on average with all cost is $60,000

Employees
10000

average cost
$60,000

Total spent on labor
$600,000,000

salary total after a 15% cut in all salary/pension/bene's
$510,000,000

Savings
$90,000,000

Why are we having an issue about taxation in NYS when the writing is on the wall of what we must do? Look at what we would save just on the county level. Think if we did this through the state level to.

Either they all get paid less or we hire less and they work harder.

Nope I totally dissagree with this idea. No, I do not believe that anyone should take a reduction in pay. Could you imagine the lifestyle change that may take affect as a result. I know I would have sleepless nights if that happened to me. No, I just think that there should be better audit controls and more open discussions on what is happening with our money donations (if you will). Joel is a bad manager plain and simple. He is one source that needs to change. Next time vote no Joel!

Nope, cut cut cut. No different when a big box store comes into an area and kills all the local small businesses. THey all take pay cuts to stay competative. IT's a free market out there so you can't blame the big box companies. But local/city/county/state workers shouldn't be exempt for the same heartache they cause when taxes go up for thier salaries/pensions/insurance increases.

Lifestyle change? Where the heck have you been? When kids move from the area for jobs isn't that a lifestyle change? When taxes go up everyone who pays them ends up with less in thier pockets.

You must be in the system :)

Oh no...no I think you are looking at it from the "I" position rather than the "they" position. You start out driving an old Ford then you move up to a Lexus you do not go back to driving the Ford once you made it to the Lexus status. Nope that is to painful to go back. It would be like me going back to a 56k dial up MODEM and forgoing the cable MODEM or DSL MODEM. No way. Not on your life.

I do not have kids by the way and I like my Buick Lesabre - could not quite get the park Avenue. No I do not have any connection with any political figure or entity.

Life is full of ups and downs. Salaries being one of them.

I have seen way too many companies leave the area to open up in areas that are less taxed. The people left here once they move usually take a cut in pay to continue to work in some cases.

Nope I say red budget minimum... but really what i'd like to see is like a pink budget... with an across the board pay cut. I know it's weird but i see the important of a library. Not just a library but as a community center. If it's only $18 million to keep them open out of a $900,000,000 budget theres not a reason to cut that. I like my pay cut chart.

Maybe I should print one out and send it to ol George in Albany. He could learn a thing or two from it. Plus i'm not trying to sound ruthless with salaries but it's going to have to be done to make NYS competative with a global economy and other States.

Who ever said everything in life is guaranteed?

If you have a budgeting problem like the County has, you may not have any choice be to go back to the 56k... or you just may have nothing at all.

Now we're cooking with gas, WNYresident. An across the board pay cut is definately in order to help the County's finanicial problems. If every penny will count for an additonal increase in sales tax, surely it will help to reduce what the tax payers have to come up with. You are so right on the money with that!!!

Well I want to use the county as an example for the rest of the local governments and State. We can not have some of the salaries they are paid seeing the local/state private sector still has to compete on a global/national level.

Why stop there? Why not go for the whole kit & caboodle and send our stories to Fox news? I bet their analysts could have a feild day with this kind of politicing.

I thought doing things this way was baby steps... if our elected officials here in Erie County see they are under national scrutiny it may change their way of thinking and start considering the people of Erie County more.

No worries though... It was just my pointless point of the day ;)
