Infertility grants have delivered

Today there are a few brand-new little citizens of Western New York as the result of a fledgling state grant program designed to help infertile couples pay for the treatments they need to have children.
The $9 million grant program, which began last year, appears to be a first in the nation.
So far, $247,000 in state grant money has been spent to help 37 women from across Western New York receive in vitro fertilization treatments. Of those 37 women, 17 became pregnant. A few babies have already been born.
That's according to Dr. Kent Crickard, the Snyder specialist whose office, Infertility & IVF Medical Associates of Western New York, was the sole medical facility in the region to participate in the state grant program.
