Listen Sneakers, do you actually think Boston Community days makes a lot of money? No, it does not, not at this point. However, it will do really well in time. Lets take what it cost to run an event like that and I would know. Think about the rides, if that isn't enough. Now take the fire works, Beer and that is only the tip of of it. It's all managed by volunteer work from the fire company and thank God for that because if you had to pay for help it just wouldn't cut it. And no we don't take from the commuity of Boston, we serve the community of Boston.
NOW, lets get back to the issues at hand. I was told by an official at Town Hall, the reason why there isn't a fence, gate up at South Boston Park and these kids are allowed to run loose till all hours of the night with out any law enforcement monitoring, and it's not their fault. Is because Mr. MEAD doesn't want it, doesn't want to bother along with the highway supervisor, doesn't see it to be important. Another issue is law enforcement. We have State Troopers and their man power isn't all that great in concerns to the area's they have to cover, but I was told we will never see a local law enforcement here in Boston. I told this person I will on my own time do research and find out how we can get more of a presence from law enforcement.
Another issue, Children in this town, what do they actually have. I know about summer programs, football, baseball and that's all good. But, lets brighten our horizon a little, what about a youth center, their own youth center with Pool table, basketball, dances, teen meeting nites. These children are our future lets get them involved now, same as we do in the fire service.
Sneakers, this is only the begining, there is a whole lot more that needs to be done and it hasn't been done yet. But the person I am voting for listens to me and many others and he has a lot of issues that needs to be addressed same as all of us.
Another thing, we need more unity with in the fire service in our town, we are brothers and sisters and we need to start acting like it when it comes to the fire service because no one has our backs but us.

Harry, I never said they made a lot of money, or lost a lot of money. Its a great event for our community. And its people like you that make it possible. I'm just somewhat bewildered why everyone hides when I ask if a report on the finances can be read at a town board meeting????????????
If the official you spoke to at the town hall was Mr. Shenk, he should have also told you Mr. Mead is only one vote on the town board. One board member doesn't have the authority or right to deny a request from a citizen like yourself. Mr. Shenk I believe was misleading you.
You're issue on law enforcement is an easy one. Let me explain. If you look in the town code book their is a section concerning town property if I am not mistaken. I think it states no alcoholic beverages allowed and no tresspassing after sunset. If this issue arises again, call code enforcement. The code is being broken and you want them to investigate. They all have cell phones, and can be contacted 24/7. You can find their numbers on the Boston Home Page. Its their job to contact local authorities whether it be the State Police or Sheriffs Dept. If you get no satisfaction there, I would bring this up at a board meeting and ask why code enforcement cannot enforce the code?
If someone can't to their job, hire someone who can.
The youth center is a great idea, but what about our seniors in town. The last census pegged them at about 11% of the population. I think I would lean more toward a community center where everyone is welcome, including groups like the Boston Community Days to hold thier meetings. But at this point in time, I don't feel our tax base can support this idea. We just don't have the population. Where's the money going to come from for the building, who's going to staff it, pay the utilities, and keep up the maintenance?
I can't comment on the fire unity thing you spoke of.

I agree about the elderly population I just wanted to get that out there and yes there should be more done for them and not only in Boston, but every where else as well.
No, it was not Schenk who told me this and that is the truth.
Law enforcement, Oh we call, we complain, all of the residents around me as well and nothin. And this has been goin on for a long time now. I knew about the codes and what they are and thats why all of us get so upset that nothin is done..
And I understand why you can't comment on the fire unity thing

Once again the Boston Community Days is a non-profit organization, If anyone wants to join and help us you are more then welcome. Why is it that people don't understand this, we are not trying to hide anything but as a non profit organization we are not required to report to the town. Sneakers just so you know the town football does not report or submit a budget, they request funds from the town just like everybody else that is non profit organization in this town. People put a lot of time and effort into this event just to please the community not to keep getting hassled about finances. There are only a few people in this town that know what it takes to make an event like this work. The committee for this event is made up of people from this town not just fireman like some people think, if you dont believe me why dont you ask Jeanne Mead she has been CO-Chairman every since this committee started.

I really don't know Mrs. Mead.
I think getting hassled is a bit much.
If u don't feel a report to the citizens of this fine town is required, fine.
keep up the good work.

Again, has the town of Boston put any money towards funding of community days? I am not asking about businesses, town council, or any other individuals. But thanks for responding. Hope to here back.

Good luck with that one. I can't get them to give a simple report to the taxpayers of Boston. The taxpayers let them use town property as an in-kind service, but it would be interesting to know just how much money the Town of Boston give this not for profit committee.
