The City of Lockport Common Council voted unanimously this week to give itself a 23% raise over two years.
"It's a 24-hour job, really," said Alderman Joe Kibler. "I get phone calls 11:30pm at night."
The council has not had a raise since 1999. The raise will boost the current $6,500 salary to $8,000 in 2009. City authorities pointed out during Wednesday night's meeting that councilmembers in Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda already earn $8,000.
