Just wondering what the thoughts are of people on the removal of the RMP.

I think is should be removed and replaced with a small scenic road and some tourist attactions (devils hole, goerge trip, one or two hotels)...not ALL natural. What do others think?

Do you think that if they got rid of it and made the tourist drive into the city it would help businesses?

I think if they go with the Hertiage groups idea of making ALL natural, it would actually hurt business.

If they do a combination of natural and tourist attractions it would help business.

That area is the only place in NF NY were there is a great view from the main land. If this area was used for hotels and resturants or attractions it could help as long as the State Parks do not owe it all.

I don't know enough about Niagara Falls roads... I wish they article had a maps showing which section they were talking about.

Although it looks like the removal could still happen independently from the Greenway project. I would think the Greenway dollars should not be spent on big infrastructure changes. It would use up too much of the funds which were meant to be spent on beautification and parks, etc.

Studies and proposals to deal with the parkway are proceeding independent of the Greenway Plan...

The parkway’s future is the focus of a $1.6 million public scoping and preliminary engineering study on the future of the gorge corridor between Niagara Falls and Lewiston, which is expected to get under way in the next six months.

Already earmarked for reconfiguration is a 1,000-foot section of the Robert Moses Parkway that will include removing a 20-foot-high overpass where the parkway connects with John B. Daly Boulevard in downtown Niagara Falls. That $11.8 million project is expected to begin in the next six months and take two years to complete. ...

In its own master plan, the city of Niagara Falls clearly identifies removing a two-mile section of Robert Moses Parkway from downtown Main Street to Findlay Drive, just south of Whirlpool State Park.

I think the Robert Moses Parkway is ugly. When we first moved here, I was astounded at just how much ugly had been brought in to cement over so much natural beauty.

15 years later, I wish it still astounded me. Unfortunately, it seems just perfect for the self-destructive way things operate here.

Claim all rights to the Hydro Plant and seize it. There's got to be some income potential in that for revamping the infrastructure along the lower gorge.

Which section are you talking about? My guess is northbound from NF to Lewiston. That's already been reduced to 1 lane in each direction @ 30mph, with NO exits in the southbound lane. If they mean the southern/eastern part between I-190 at the GI bridge, and downtown NF they're nuts. There is no decent route to get into the city/Rainbow Bridge area - Buffalo Ave., and NFB/Pine Ave. are like Baghdad in their pavement quality.

Just the section between Main Street and the Devil's Hole.

Tear it up? What about the radioactive road bedding?

Turn it into the world's longest Drag Strip do we can have more wars for top-fuel dragsters. Then you'd be talking 'attraction!'

They cackle much better on 90%.

"Sunday blows hard like the wind."

Based on your zillions of posts, I'd say you're an authority on that subject.

I agree that leaving the part between the I-190 and downtown NF, but I think that the rest should, at the very least, be reconfigured to make it more conducive to tourism if not completely removed.

I happen to like the natural aspects of Goat Island, the Devil's Hole, and trail/steps down into the gorge. That said, however, Niagara Falls needs to have more "touristy" things to do on the American side which can probably be accommodated without infringing on the "natural" aspects of the state park.

I haven't been to NF in a long time, btw. Is the Wintergarden still in existence and open to the public? I used to love that place!

Agreed. Nice place to spend a Winter afternoon. At one time you could walk indoors all the way from the Convention Center, watch skaters at the E. Dent Lackey plaza, past rows of shops and end up at the Wintergarden/Mall.

Unfortunately, it was sold(?) to Smokin' Joe Anderson, turned into an amusement arcade and is closed now, I think.

What a shame.

You kidding, Linda? It was pretty, wasn't it? Maybe someone can fill in what happened to it.
