Great.... more development
<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> I can accept the Target expansion on Walden since the building already exists. But why are our elected officials allowing Benderson to build an enormous plaza next to the new Traget on Transit when there is an almost entirely vacant plaza on Union Road (The old Dick's Plaza)? And for those of you who think these new additions and building will help lower your taxes in Cheektowaga... please understand that the new taxes that are generated from these businesses will only go to increased spending and the purchase of more unneccesary items such as solar lights and those signs that are infront of town hall and the town parks. Enough is enough already!
Sort of nailed it on the head didn't you.
You'd think with all this developement that happened in cheektowaga our taxes would be lower for the people who were already in the town.
I can't believe there's someone who works for our town that got suckered into those solar lights. Couldn't they tested 1 street worth of them? Or find one other wintery snowing city in the world that used these solar lights? I see one every day on my way to work that stands out.. pathetic as a lamp post goes :) aiming in the wrong direction... looks like wires hanging.
I also drive by those digital signs everyday. Doesn't seem like a wise purchase at all. The signs don't change much. We should make the commitee that had to have them make a point of placing one new message a day on them. They wanted them, make them use them.

I like the signs. They certainly look better than those rent-a-sign that use the plastic letters. I read the one at Town Park every day as I drive by. Why don't you go to a town board meeting and tell them what you think?

The signs in front of Town Hall seem to be used to notify people when Town Meetings are held - How can anyone possibly have a problem with a Town that goes the extra step to keep citizens informed?

Maybe you should pay more attention to the road and less to the flashy signs on the side of the road... how long until they break down and how much will it cost to fix them when they break?
Also, it doesnt matter what you say to this board, they are going to do what they want to do anyways!

Who are you refering to in this quote?
Also, how many people do you think read those ridiculous signs and say "oh there is a town board meeting tonight, I am going to go to it."? Everyone knows when the meetings are. They are posted online, in the newspapers etc. Do the citizens of Cheektowaga really need another avenue to be reached?

Here's a newsflash for you: Not everyone reads the Legal Notices.
In my opinion, anything that gets more people involved is a good thing.

Do you have reports of numerous accidents caused by people reading the signs? Who are you to tell me to pay more attention to the road?
And maybe you should change your name to "crabbyapples"

I did the town board meeting thing when a "town employee" was over the $32,000 in over time. Not a police officer or worker who's over time was generated because of road work or anything. It was one of thier IT computer people. I got absolutily no where with them.

The town employee must of known it wasn't proper because he took me to lunch to ask not to do a FOIL to confirm what other town employees were saying. They were great... told me step by step on what to do and everything. Apparently this one town employee must be in the "click" because they never got back to me on the matter.

I like this guy.
You know what else they say? "Slow down for police or something like that"... or alternate parking is being enforced.
I want to see information. real information. You wanted to drop $5,000 or more on a sign then use it. I spotted in the paper they were there to inform people about town events and happenings. Apparently there's not a lot of town events or happenings because the message is mostly the same. I do happen to see them 2 times a day since they were up.
Did the same commitee that picked the solar lights pick the new digital signs?

So far is that basically all they have been using them for? I haven't really seen any events posted on the signs other than a few slow down for police type messages.
A small sign under a sign that would say town board meetings 8 pm monday would of sufficed. Look at the money spent. I think fixing potholes would of been a better use of the money.

Can you imagine if Cheektowaga had a 24-hour hotline for potholes with the promise of filling in the potholes like the City of Buffalo? Then maybe we wouldnt have to drive down our streets as if we were in a Super-G ski race!
Just out of curiousity to those who like these signs.... what NEW information have you seen posted on them? Slow down for police and parking on the streets are common sense practices that do not need to be given to the public.
Maybe their IT guy has all this overtime expense to get these signs up and running... or maybe he is working really long hours to change the wording on the signs.... just a thought

The fact is people get into more accidents when they are not looking at the traffic infront of them than if they were. It's called a distraction....
If I were your neighbor I would change my name to crabbyapples!

If they're going to have a 24hr hotline for potholes, the promise should be to have the potholes filled in within 24hrs. lol I mean what kind of workers are these unions training that they are so important to have for laborers?
I'll bet a few independents could shake hands on territory and run their own 24hr pothole filling businesses. Maybe that would be all the motivation a few of these "stuck in the union" guys need to persue properity for themselves and the community.
(but of course I could be wrong because the mundane is the better choice)
