Hamburg taxes are a very small portion of our overall taxes as our tax problems extend to school and county taxes. There are things in government that need to be changed or we will drive out all New Yorkers to NC, SC and TN as FL real estate taxes are becoming just as bad with property values soaring these past three years. Here is what it is - Government employees are unionized and the pension and other retirement benefits they get will put a stranglehold on our community as well as other New York communities. I don't blame the employees as this is what our elected officials granted in negotiations. This is no different than GM and Ford as they also deferred union related expenses so they didn't have to address the union demands. Guess what? The unions won!! Our elected officials decided to give these benefits in order to defer the current salaries and benefits. Well, the day of reckoning is not far off. Our kids will pay the price or we ask them to move when we move South. Those that stay will have even a larger tax bite. Or the alternative is to address the situation now. Don't mess with the current employees that have earned those benefits, but those benefits need to be cut NOW and those that are hired in the future don't get those benefits. A new salary structure needs to be created that rewards people for working long, hard hours, not 35 hours per week, earn sick time up the ying yang, etc. I am not upset with anyone who works that gets these benefits, I am just saying something needs to change. Will the last one out please turn out the lights!! Ohh - the other reason our taxes are high is we don't have a tourist trade coming through our communities. We probably don't generate .0001% of what FL generates in taxes via hotels, rental car and sales tax.
