When Joette Cappello decided that she'd like to enroll in a water aerobics class and some other community education courses through the East Aurora Union Free School District, she did so by visiting the district's Web site.

"It's easy to use, and is just like paying for anything else over the Internet," she said. "I enrolled and paid for my courses in 10 minutes."

Cappello, a secretary to the school business administrator at East Aurora, paid for her courses by using PaySchools, online payment processing software designed specifically for school systems. East Aurora is the first Western New York district and among the first in the state to use it.

"We created PaySchools as a solution to maximize our pooled money market fund, and allow parents to pay for their chlidren's school expenses," said Jon Muller, chief financial officer of the Iowa Association of School Boards (http://www.bizjournals.com/search/bin/search?q=%22Iowa%20Association%20of%20School%20Boa rds%22&t=buffalo). "This past spring, New York was one of the first to sign up for the service and since May, 17 state school board associations have adopted it."
