Over the past few months, I have travelled our state touting Erie County’s successes and pointing to our achievements as a model for how to fix our dysfunctional and broken state government. Despite only having been in office for two years, many have urged me to consider running for Governor to implement in Albany those same initiatives that have changed the way government works for the taxpayers in Erie County. After Rudy Giuliani’s decision not to run, I have thought long and hard about such a campaign.
I have decided to finish the job we have started here in Erie County. While we have achieved great success in getting county finances under control and reforming county government, there is still a great deal to accomplish towards fixing our community’s broken economy.
In Erie County, I will continue fighting every day to do what I was elected to do – protect the taxpayers of our community. It will not be easy with Albany’s emboldened dedication to protecting the failed status quo. Yet our taxpayers deserve better, and I will continue fighting to protect their interests. I also know, as a key leader in our state’s Republican party, you will ultimately select a candidate who will take on this failed status quo and will offer real hope for taxpayers throughout our state.
Despite my decision, I want to express to you with the utmost sincerity my appreciation for all you have done on my behalf these past few months. I appreciate the sacrifice of your time to meet with me and provide your advice regarding this important decision. While I will not be a candidate, I know our state still has the opportunity to change under the leadership of good men and women like you.
Again, thank you.
Sincerely,
CHRIS COLLINS
