B&ECPL: the self-created sacrificial lamb of Erie County.
Cindy Gautheir

Since the start of this County crisis, the B&ECPL has maintained their losses are due to the County’s financial problems. They are in the midst persuading County Government to allot “needed” funds, they’ve struggled with a large number of lay-offs; the cutting of hours to area branches to save money and … they have increased pay for two years?

FORMER DEPEW CLERK FILES FEDERAL SUIT
Gary S. Howell
In 2002, the clerk earned $35,000 a year. The Administrator position started at $45,000 a year. Robert Kucewicz, who was appointed to fill the job, now earns $46,575, as the village clerk.

TOWN OF LANCASTER REGULAR EMPLOYEES AND SALARY
Based on the resolutions passed during the January 1, 2004 board meeting, the town of Lancaster has two hundred and two regular employees. One hundred-thirty seven of them are full-time and sixty-five are part-time. This figure does not include part-time seasonal employees. It's impossible to know how many seasonal employees the town will hire. For example, the town may need six lifeguards, but if four people apply, they will only have access to four employees.

ONE FOR YOU, NINETEEN FOR ME
Gary S. Howell

Pity the poor folk who work for the town of Lancaster. In 2001, they got an insignificant three percent raise. In 2003, it was a mere four percent. In 2004, it was another measly four percent. In the last three years they've suffered through accumulated pay raises of over eleven percent.

HE EARNED IT, THEY TOOK IT AWAY: PART 2
My brother worked to support his family and provide for their future. At one time, he had a decent pension. After Tyco purchased Scott Aviation, his pension shrunk. Rather than support the benefit programs they agreed to pay employees, Kozlowski and Swartz blew the money.

HE EARNED IT, THEY TOOK IT AWAY
Tyco executives are currently on trial for mismanaging corporate assets. While Dennis Kozlowski and Mark Swartz squandered millions, people like my brother were working hard to feed their families and provide for their old age.

LANCASTER HIRES NEW POLICE OFFICERS
The Lancaster Town Board approved a resolution to hire seven new police officers during their July 7th, 2003 meeting. Since the Police merger, more men retired than were expected. This caused what Police Chief Gary Stoldt described as a "scheduling nightmare".

Amherst Employees Can Now Reside Wherever They Choose
The May 5th Town Board meeting was the ugliest, most biased Board Meeting I have seen in 12 years. It was a group of frightened, small-minded people who lost their sense of governance.

Placing the Blame Where it Belongs
Let's all be honest for a moment. If you were offered an above average pay raise, would you take it? I would. If you could get a job where your health benefits were the best available, your retirement benefits exempt from state tax, and your annual raises outpaced inflation, would you take it? I would. If in return for that job you are told to vote a certain way, would you? I wouldn't, I'd vote my conscious. But then again, I don't believe what they tell people in Depew, that those in power can find out how an individual votes.
