The Democratic Party of Erie County’s chairman is Leonard R. Lenihan not G. Steven Pigeon. Mr. Pigeon is employed by Mr. Tom Golisano. At one time Steven stood at the top of the Democratic political mountain looking down on his “flock”, but just as he climbed to the top, he quickly slid down into the valley.
When certain political people speak Mr. Pigeon’s name they do it in fearful tones, yet Steven doesn’t have any real power anymore. He derives his so called “clout” from working for Mr. Golisano and being part of State Senator Bryon Brown’s group.
Steve Pigeon once was the power in the Democratic Party, now he is a citizen who’s “friends” have a bit of power. Many people in county government have friends with some influence, yet not enough to swing an election. This is the same position Steve Pigeon now finds himself.
The day of the party boss has slowly dissolved in this area due to the inability of party bosses to take care of their followers and constituents. The scandals they became involved in become public knowledge. Public mistrust and hate for the leaders followed. The “Pigeons” of the political arena are no longer a force in any way, shape or form. They may surround themselves with a few weaklings who need to follow someone for a paycheck but decent politicians fear this kind of albatross. Decent politicians only responsible to the people they serve.
Politics has a filthy image because the people in charge are filthy. They have forgotten that they are really to be serving the average Joe, not their friends who get the golden jobs. Does greed overpower their sense of decency? The people of this area need decent, honest leaders who won’t give them “BS”, and will fight like hell for them.
If a Chairman wants to really lead their candidates to victory, reliance on a Steven Pigeon type of person, or any money group, is neither needed nor wanted. As for Steve Pigeon, let him fade into the work force of Mr. Golisano and become a servant to a boss.
Steve Pigeon supports Joel Giambra. Since it’s on solid ground that Pigeon‘s boss, Mr. Golisano, plans to run for Governor under the Democratic banner, I find it hard to understand why Pigeon is supporting Giambra. Then again maybe I do understand. Pigeon’s image of a being a loser might run off on Joel.
It’s been said that politics is a dirty game and sometimes it is. Remember what happened to Dennis Gorski? He also had Steve Pigeon and his group working for his reelection. Gorski lost to Joel Giambra.
