for Western New York Students; Entries Due Feb. 17
BUFFALO, NY, Jan. 14, 2010 – ProjecTruth of Catholic Charities puts out the call to young artists, writers and vocalist for entries in its seventh annual Abstinence Until Marriage Creativity Contest: “Waiting is Easier because…”. Students in seventh to 12th grades are eligible to enter and deadline for the contest is Feb. 17, 2009.
The contest encourages students to creatively express their
understanding of the benefits of remaining sexually abstinent until marriage and/or the consequences of high-risk behavior through art, essays, poems and/or music.
First and second prizes will be awarded in each category in both divisions: 7th & 8th grades and 9th through 12th grades.
The winners’ posters, essays, poems and/or song lyrics will be reproduced for distribution to area schools and organizations and will also be published on the ProjecTruth Web site, www.projectruth.com. Winners will be announced in early April and will be invited to receive their awards at a special reception later that month.
While the contest is open to the community, special prizes will be awarded to the school with the greatest number of entries from students, including ProjecTruth’s “LifeSongs: Make the Right Choice” curriculum, including Scoreboard student workbook, and music CD/DVD.
Maximum poster size is 18” x 24”. Essays and poems must be 100 words or less. Songs lyrics must be written and sung and included on a cassette or CD. No slang, vulgarities, or sexually explicit images may be used.
Winners will be judged on the best representation of the abstinence until marriage theme and artistic consideration as portrayed in a positive light.
