Volunteers to Attend First-Ever Eastern Niagara County Workshop to Kick
off Appeal 2010
WHO:
• Most Rev. Edward U. Kmiec, bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo;
• Sister Mary McCarrick, interim diocesan director, Catholic Charities;
• Dennis Walczyk, chief executive officer, Catholic Charities;
• Michael “Mick” Whipple, Catholic Charities 2010 Appeal chair;
• Parent Craig Abelson, whose family was assisted by the Multisystemic
Therapy program;
• About 50 community volunteers, clergy and lay leaders from seven
parishes across Eastern Niagara County.
WHAT:
A training workshop to kick off the 2010 Appeal for Catholic Charities
in eastern Niagara County. Key dates for the campaign are Appeal Week
2010, March 21 to March 28, which will take place throughout the eight
counties of Western New York. Bishop Kmiec, Sister Mary McCarrick, Mick
Whipple and local Appeal leaders will be available for interviews.
WHY:
The 2010 Appeal goal of $10.5 million helps support Catholic Charities’
programs and services Eastern Niagara County’s three offices. In Eastern
Niagara County last year alone, about 5,000 individuals turned to the
organization for assistance.

5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Workshop with clergy/volunteers and formal remarks
(client is expected to speak between 5:30 and 6 p.m.)
6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments
