BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 17, 2009 – Dennis Walczyk, chief executive officer of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, has been named to a two-year term as chair of the New York State Council of Catholic Charities Directors.
The NYS Council of Catholic Charities Directors was founded in 1969, as Catholic Charities directors from across the state felt the need to have a vehicle to focus together on issues relating to social services. In the human service arena, the expertise, experience and advice of the Council guides the New York State Catholic Conference, which represents the Bishops of the eight New York State dioceses in matters of public policy.
Walczyk was selected to serve as chair through agreement of the body in October.
“The Council looks forward to his leadership and term in office,” said Earl Eichelberger, Director for Human Services of the New York State Catholic Conference. “His role is particularly important this year as he will serve during the Regional Summit for Catholic Charities USA’s
Centennial. He will be the voice and face of the Council during this time, guiding that whole process.”
Walczyk began representing the Diocese of Buffalo on the Council in 2002, and served as vice chair from 2008-2009. He has also served as chair of the annual Catholic Charities Directors Convening and for three years on the Statewide Public Policy Committee representing Buffalo.
Catholic Charities is the most comprehensive direct human service provider serving all eight counties of Western New York, with 70 programs and 61 locations.
