There is a saying: “power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Our founding fathers knew that our political system needed checks and balances.
In Lancaster, this founding principal has been violated because the Democratic Party has had the controlling power for much too long. It is time to bring back the checks and balances by electing two Republicans to the Town Board, Georgette Pelletterie and Gerald Burgin. Voting them into office would bring a much needed balance to the Town Board, and result in better stewardship of the needs of the taxpayers.
It really doesn’t matter if your political views are more aligned with the National Democratic platform, when it comes to town politics the issues are local ones. There has been a series of local issues that were handled poorly by our Town Board. Issues such as the expansion of the Buffalo-Lancaster airport without proper disclosure, the repeated rezoning of rezoned land from the Town Master Plan without consideration of the effect on residents, as well as lack of attention to needed infrastructure improvements and maintenance such as roads, sewers and bridges.
Also, our taxes are rising and Town Board members are voting themselves raises even though many in the taxpaying public are suffering economically.
It’s time to stop repeatedly voting in incumbent politicians just because we recognize their names.
It’s a time for our votes to make a difference by bringing in the political balance that is sorely needed in Lancaster.
