At The January 5th Town Board Organizational meeting, salary schedules were approved for town officials and employees. They differ than those posted in the 2009 budget
I had asked the Town Clerk whether it was possible to post the list on the Town’s web site, as well as the town’s budget. Town Clerk Johanna Coleman assured me that the budget was posted along with the November 17th minutes.
The 2009 budget is posted on the town’s web site and does include the salaries of all full and part time employees.
It has since been pointed out to me by a few of the “you guys” that the salaries listed and approved at the January 5th meeting do not agree with those posted on the 2009 approved budget.
The January 5th list of salaries in most cases are 2008 salaries and some predate the 2008 salary schedule. They do not include the predicted 3% rote salary increase negotiated in union contracts. All union contracts are in the negotiation process. The police contract will be approved at the January 20, 2009 Town Board meeting.
Should the police get a 3% salary increase, as was budgeted, as well as the other unions in their contracts as is routine, the salaries posted in the right brackets will be their final salary payouts.
There were several instances in January 5th Organizational Salary Schedule list where police salaries were dated back prior to 2008. Why? Who knows? It should be asked at the January 20th Town Board meeting.
Considering the resolution language merely states, “Resolved, that the Town Board of the Town of Lancaster hereby approves the Collective Negotiations Settlement Memorandum between the Town of Lancaster and the Cayuga Club Police Benevolent Association, as presented, for a successor collective negotiation agreement with a stated term of January 1, 2008 through and including December 31, 2011,” it should be asked what the salary increases will be and whether there were any union concessions.
It was reported in today’s Buffalo News that some firms are trimming wages before cutting jobs. The report further stated that the trend is hitting workers at nonprofit organizations and in state and local governments to deal with the crumbling economy. Can’t see this happening in Lancaster as was evidenced by the recently approved 2009 town budget.
If once again this contract parallels past contracts, why did the town hire outside counsel at $233 per hour to perform the negotiations?
Unfortunately, unlike the presented Amherst budget, the costs are departmentalized and not individualized to show total individual compensation payouts.
