The Town of Lancaster established a committee to coordinate events and activities in celebration of its 175th anniversary. To share the town’s good fortune, the committee added a food drive to its events.

Gary Howell was appointed to Chair that committee and through his extraordinary efforts has been successful in obtaining food and monetary contributions. Howell, and the other members of his committee, are most pleased with the response from the Lancaster Central School District.

Lancaster Central School District Financial Director Richard D’Arcy was approached with the idea of having a food drive at the William Street School. Knowing the request came at the end of the school year, not much was expected.

However, after conferring with Principal Karen McGamwell, they more than responded in the affirmative, but extended the originally proposed collection period.

Coordinating their effort with school field days, teachers were able to stress the need and value of the food drive. In total, the students collected over 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food products.

The Lancaster 175th Anniversary Food Drive Committee would like to thank Mr. D’Arcy, Principal McGamwell, and most of all, the William Street School students for their exemplary efforts to help this noble cause.

The food was distributed to the Trinity and Tri-Community Food Pantries.

Other food drive events

For the 4th of July celebration days the food drive will raffle off a Fender Strat Pack Guitar package, a $100 gift certificate from Save-A-Lot, restaurant gift cards and many other valuable prizes.

Please visit them at their tent, in the midway, on Central Avenue, in downtown Lancaster. The tent will be open from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 3rd and from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 4th.

Raffle Ticket prices are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. Winning tickets will be drawn at 8:00 pm on July 4th. Winners need not be present.

Other planned events include raffles during the Taste of Lancaster and Arts in the Village. Both events take place in downtown Lancaster. The Committee is also collecting food and donations during Lancaster Town Band concerts at Oxford Park in Lancaster and Veteran’s Park in Depew.

A series of food collections and donation drives are also in the works.

If you or your club, business, or organization would like to help the 175th Anniversary Committee succeed in it’s food drive effort, please contact Gary Howell at 440-4688.
