Business First released its list of best WNY school districts today. It is no surprise at all to see which districts top the list.

1. Williamsville (Erie)
2. Clarence (Erie)
3. Orchard Park (Erie)
4. Amherst (Erie)
5. East Aurora (Erie)
6. Iroquois (Erie)
7. Hamburg (Erie)
8. Akron (Erie)
9. Bemus Point (Chautauqua)
10. LeRoy (Genesee)
11. Alden (Erie)
12. Alfred-Almond (Allegany)
13. Eden (Erie)

Follow the money and affluence, you will find the best schools. Follow the poverty and indigence, you will find the worst schools.

89. Dunkirk (Chautauqua)
90. Ripley (Chautauqua)
91. Andover (Allegany)
92. Salamanca (Cattaraugus)
93. Canaseraga (Allegany)
94. Niagara Falls (Niagara)
95. Friendship (Allegany)
96. Lackawanna (Erie)
97. Buffalo (Erie)

The correlation between the wealthy and the poor translates into the type of education children receive.

Media outlets paraded the high placed districts around today. Superintendents were on the radio, TV and in print. The problem is they missed the big story. Looking at this logically, how difficult is it to get students to perform at a high level in a well off community where the support on all levels is in place as opposed to getting students to perform where the level of support isn’t there?

This list just illustrates what we all know. There is a distinct difference between the haves and the have nots of WNY when it comes to educating children.

The complete list…
