Parkside Community Association’s 13th Annual Tour of Homes
The Parkside Community Association presents the 13th Annual Tour of Homes on Sunday, May 22 from 11:00 am – 4:30 pm. This popular tour will have TEN outstanding homes and TWO church rectories for you to explore. Visitors are promised a fascinating look inside historical residences in Buffalo’s Historic District of Parkside. Some of the homes reflect their 19th century origin in architectural style with their interiors and furnishings. Others offer an exciting contemporary approach to city living. Onsite docents will provide history of the homes and will be available for questions.

Lancaster Historic Cemetery welfare bears significance for only a few

At the recent Lancaster Board meeting, resident Roy Schneggenburger berated Pleasant Meadows developer Marrano Marc/Equity for dragging its feet to fulfill a site plan condition that requires the developer to properly fence off the Historic Cemetery.

Sierra Club petitions DEC to deny wetland permit

The Sierra Club has joined residents in voicing opposition to the unwarranted filling in of a Class I wetland along Transit Road in Lancaster for the purpose of widening the road in a location that was not considered in the original plans and/or is not included in the application for permit, but whose construction would favor the development of a proposed truck stop.

It appears to many like minded individuals in towns other than Lancaster that the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) will grant a permit to destroy or fill in a wetland under nearly any circumstance – especially following the SWANCC federal guideline that the waters need to be connected and/or navigable.

The Republican Party has not been the environment’s best friend on both federal and state levels. Waterways and wetlands tend to be considered nothing more than an impediment preventing developers from realizing more profits and municipalities from garnering more tax revenues.

While states and environmental advocacy groups were elated by a ruling handed down by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, they were dismayed by President Bush’s appointment of Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne as Secretary of the interior.

Assembly Passes Wetland Bill!

In January, Riverkeeper launched an online petition to demonstrate widespread, grassroots support for the Clean Water Protection/Flood Prevention Act (A.2048/S.2081). On February 2, 2006 the State Assembly quickly passed the bill for the third year in a row!

State Attorney General admonishes Army Corp of Engineers on Muir Woods wetland delineation

In March 2004, Liz Kaszubski, Wetland Chair of the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter, Niagara Group and Chair of the Buffalo Audubon Society, filed a request on behalf of Sierra Club to the US Army Corps of Engineers Inspector General in Washington, DC, that contained detailed information about improper wetland delineations in our area.

NT School Board reverses decision to sell land

There was a packed house at the North Tonawanda Board of Education meeting tonight. In a show of hands, everyone in attendance was FOR the school district giving its land to Buffalo Audubon Society instead of selling it to developers.
