Madigan to seek Federal Elections Commission (FEC) Inquiry.
BUFFALO, NY: Mike Madigan is seeking clarification on Representative Higgins’ attempted claim for de minimis personal use of a campaign leased vehicle, as reported with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The vehicle in question was leased, as per the FEC, on August 2, 2011 from West Herr Chevrolet for a $4,010.00 deposit, and a monthly payment of $536.92. The claim has many of the same characteristics of a case involving Representative Meeks (D-NY), who in 2001, sought and received FEC approval for a vehicle. However, FEC required a mileage log be kept, to ensure the vehicle was not being used in excess of 5% for personal use, and Representative Meeks was fined $63,000 by the FEC in 2008 for charges related to improper vehicle use.
