April 2, 2013 – Buffalo, NY - Upon learning that entry of a new candidate into the mayoral race is all but certain, announced candidate Sergio Rodriguez had this to say:

“We welcome the entry of a new candidate into the race and are pleased to see democracy in action. For the first time in nearly a decade, voters will be given a choice in the general election regardless of the outcome in the primary. We are waging an issues-based campaign focused on improving Buffalo's education system, making streets safer, proper administration of the city's federal aid meant to combat poverty and curbing the historic unemployment rate, currently at a decades-high rate.

Joe Swartz: Enough is Enough
Joe Swartz, prospective candidate for City Council, spoke in front of the City Council Public Hearing on the Budget where he delivered the following remarks:

“I am here tonight as a concerned citizen, on behalf of the thousands of other concerned citizens- residents and businesses alike - to speak about the dire straits of the budget you are currently working on.

“Year after year, all of you on the council, with the exception of Taxpayer Advocate - Councilman Glenn Choolokian - have voted to approve bloated budgets that included millions in Casino Cash Revenue, and spent it in ways that is was never supposed to be, and not used to spur economic development, as it was spelled out and intended to in the Casino Compact.

GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES INITIATIVE TO HELP LONG-TERM UNEMPLOYED INDIVIDUALS FIND JOBS
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a new initiative to combat long-term unemployment in New York State.

To help New Yorkers seeking jobs, the state will distribute $6 million in federal grants to companies that hire long-term unemployed individuals, as well as deploy a mobile response team to assist individuals seeking work in high unemployment areas.

"New York State’s efforts to help long-term, unemployed individuals find jobs have been recognized across the nation, and this additional $6 million will be a shot in the arm as we continue to put New Yorkers back to work and get our economy back on track," Governor Cuomo said. "With NY Works projects creating new jobs and supporting economic development all across the state, this initiative will help train workers and connect the unemployed with opportunities to launch a successful career."

Madigan to seek Federal Elections Commission (FEC) Inquiry.
BUFFALO, NY: Mike Madigan is seeking clarification on Representative Higgins’ attempted claim for de minimis personal use of a campaign leased vehicle, as reported with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The vehicle in question was leased, as per the FEC, on August 2, 2011 from West Herr Chevrolet for a $4,010.00 deposit, and a monthly payment of $536.92. The claim has many of the same characteristics of a case involving Representative Meeks (D-NY), who in 2001, sought and received FEC approval for a vehicle. However, FEC required a mileage log be kept, to ensure the vehicle was not being used in excess of 5% for personal use, and Representative Meeks was fined $63,000 by the FEC in 2008 for charges related to improper vehicle use.
