(EAST AURORA, NY) - Former East Aurora Mayor David DiPietro today congratulated retiring New York State Assemblyman Dan Burling for decades of honorable service and kicked off his own campaign for the new 140th New York State Assembly District.

"Dan Burling served our country as a Marine and his community as a New York State Assemblyman and he assembled a record that bears special recognition," DiPietro said. "Dan is a lion in the Republican Party and I offer him my heartfelt respect and best wishes as he begins the next chapter of his life. One thing is for certain: that chapter will surely continue his lifetime of service to his community."

"I am also formerly kicking off my campaign today for the new 140th Assembly District, which includes part of Assemblyman Burling's former constituency," Dipietro said. "I will run on a platform of cutting taxes, slashing spending, and providing state mandate relief for Erie and Wyoming counties. As a small businessman, I know these three issues are at the heart of what is most on the minds of constituents in the 140th: job creation."

"Today I will begin meeting in earnest with neighbors and key decision-makers to secure the Republican nomination for Assembly," DiPietro said.

While the debate over the statewide Assembly redistricting map is coming to a close in Albany, the planned 140th Assembly District is expected to remain largely intact to include Wyoming County and large portions of Erie County.

ABOUT DAVID DIPIETRO

In 2002, DiPietro was elected Mayor of East Aurora and took the reins of a village on the verge of fiscal collapse. In less than two years, he turned the Village's financial situation around and produced three straight tax cuts - the first time ever in Village history. In 2005, DiPietro was recognized at the State of the County of Erie conference as the leader in New York State in mergers and consolidations of government departments and services.

David DiPietro is a small businessman and lifelong resident of East Aurora, New York. He is the second-generation owner of Sparkle Cleaners, a 65 year-old family operated business with locations in East Aurora and Amherst. Beyond his six years of service as Mayor, he also served as an elected Village of East Aurora Trustee from 1999 to 2002. DiPietro is very active in his community and is a member of the Sons of the American Legion East Aurora Post 362, a member of East Aurora Moose Lodge 370, a member of the National Rifle Association, and an active fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club. He and his wife, Theresa, are members of East Aurora Wesleyan Church and live in the Village with their three children.
