DON'T GET ME STARTED had me hearing the callers bemoaning the fact that the Bills game in Toronto will be against the Miami Dolphins on December 7th.
"It's outrageous" hey hollered. "The NFL screwed Buffalo" they chimed. "Any other team but Miami" they argued.
Spare me this type of hogwash. For all those that used Buffalo/Miami with "Rivalry" aren't necessarily long time Bills fans.
THERE IS NO RIVALRY WITH THE MJIAMI DOLPHINS. Yes, Ralph Wilson said there was when the league re-aligned several years back. Otherwise the Bills might have been in a division with Cleveland; Detroit and Cincinnati or New York Jets.
There used to be a rivalry with the Dolphins. But once Jim Kelly and Dan Marino retired - you tell me that there's an intense hatrid for the Fish. Hell....they can't even sell out that game in late November or December anymore.
There isn't that feeling generated by Bryan Cox, he of two-fingered salute to Bills fans on his visits to the Ralph. There isn't that hope that existed in the 70s when Miami swept all games against te Bills in that decade.
You tell me now that when Buffalo beats Miami in Orchard Park, that fans will tear down the goal posts as they did when the Bills finally beat the Fish at the turn of the 80s.
There was tremendous rivalry between these teams. Face it - it doesn't exist anymore. The Bills/Patriots is now the rivalry. That's the team to beat. Belichik has replaced Shula; Brady has replaqced Marino. Miami? Spare me - they're like a west coast team rather than a heated and hated opponent.
The only negative of Miami playing in Toronto against the Bills is that it deprives fans of watching the Fish trying to slosh in the snow in December. The game will probably be played indoors when the roof is closed in Tonto.
And that's what has me snickering when people start screaming "rivalry" when referencing the Miami Dolphins. Again - and simply put - that rivalary ended a little more than 10 years ago when Jimbo and Dando ended their careers on Don't Get Me Started.
